Which Abloy Models This Applies To

The Abloy Sento and Abloy Pulse are complete lock assemblies with integrated motors and Bluetooth modules. Check the cylinder face for “Protec2” engraving, or look for a model sticker inside the battery compartment on Sento units.

Here’s where owners get stuck: Protec2 smart cylinders require a specific tailpiece length (32mm or 38mm) to mate with your existing deadbolt. Measure from the cylinder face to the cam center, or we do it on arrival. Aftermarket smart retrofits exist for Protec2, but we default to OEM Abloy smart modules. The encryption handshake between cylinder and app is proprietary, and third-party units in San Jose humidity have shown higher failure rates at the 18-month mark. • Physical key works, smart functions dead. The control board has failed independently of the mechanical cylinder. Abloy’s mechanical side and electronic side are separate systems by design. We diagnose which side has failed and quote only the necessary component.
• Battery life collapsed from 12 months to 3 weeks. The motor is drawing excess current due to binding in the bolt mechanism. The lock is working harder to throw, not smarter. We find the mechanical bind, fix it, and replace the motor if it has overheated.

DIY or Call Us?

There is nothing dangerous about an Abloy smart lock in the way there is with a garage door torsion spring. The risk is financial and functional. An owner can safely check: battery orientation, strike plate alignment, and whether the bolt moves freely with the thumbturn. What goes wrong in DIY: programming the credential sequence out of order and bricking the module, stripping the delicate tailpiece setscrew, or discovering too late that the smart cylinder’s 32mm tailpiece doesn’t reach a Schlage deadbolt’s cam.
